The Highrange Development Society (HDS) in Idukki is rigorously pursuing its anti-drug campaign, making significant inroads into the community to combat substance abuse. The Society’s consistent efforts are visible through extensive awareness programs in schools and colleges, actively engaging both students and faculty. HDS also supports public participation through "Ladders Meet" and "Parents Meet" events held in schools, ensuring that the critical message of a drug-free society resonates across all age groups and with key stakeholders. A notable event involved the active participation of St. Mary's UP School , Karimpan, children, who organized cultural programs as part of the initiative, highlighting HDS's dedication to involving even the youngest members of society in this vital fight.
As a core component of their comprehensive "Sajeevam-2.0 Anti-Drug Campaign," HDS launched an Early Intervention Council Training Program and a dedicated Help Desk. This impactful event, held at the HDS office in Karimpan, Idukki, was a collaborative endeavor with the Diocese of Idukki's Social Welfare Department( HDS), Caritas India, and the Kerala Social Service Forum. The Help Desk, specifically established to curb the increasing use of alcohol and drugs in the community, was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Jose Karivelickal, Vicar General of the Diocese of Idukki and President of HDS, and Rev. Fr. Jacob Mavungal, Executive Director of the Kerala Social Service Forum, who also delivered the keynote address. The training program was presided over by Dr. Joseph Kochukunnel, Executive Director of HDS.
The training sessions were expertly conducted by Mr. Sabumon M. C. (Excise Vimukti Nodal Officer), Mr. Arun George Thomas (PRO of Payumkulam S.H. Hospital), and Mr. Sajo Joy (State Coordinator of the Sajivam Anti-Drug Campaign), covering a wide display of crucial topics. 50 participants attended the program, with many engaging at the "Sajivam photo point" to further disseminate awareness on social media. This comprehensive approach, integrating direct intervention through the Help Desk, educational outreach, and community engagement, clearly demonstrates HDS's unwavering commitment to supporting a drug-free environment throughout the Highrange region of Idukki.
